Smith Creek is located in a paved commercial area in West Kelowna and is subject to sudden changes in stream volume after rainstorms. The water had been collecting in a man made pond which included an earthen dam. In order to protect downstream values, the pond capacity was distributed amongst three ponds, each having sufficient rock and bioengineering considerations to eliminate risk of sudden failure.  The stream channel was armoured with riprap and a weir installed to direct overflow into a secondary channel.  Native plant species were established to promote diverse vegetative cover in this park-like setting.
